In the 4 years I spent working in Investment Banking, I was lucky enough to work in 4 different teams. My first year was spent working in Private Capital Advisory, assisting private equity funds with Secondaries transactions. I then spent 6 months working in Real Estate M&A - being thrown in the deep end and having to rebuild / roll-forward a unwieldy model for a £1.2bn deal.
I then spent 18 months with the Consumer M&A team, where I was promoted a year early, working on fashion and luxury transactions, as well as on other deals across the supermarket, cosmetic and gambling sectors.
In my final year at Lazard, I worked in the Venture and Growth Banking team, assisting startups (Series B onwards), on their fundraises - ranging from £20m debt raises to £200m equity raises. This role had more of a generalist focus so I was lucky enough to work with companies in the FinTech, DeepTech and ConsumerTech sectors.
